How to Cleanse Your Lash Extensions

1. Choose a gentle cleanser
Use a lash-extension–safe cleanser. We recommend SkinCeuticals® Gentle Cleanser for the eye area. Please consult your Lashlette esthetician if you have questions about product compatibility.
2. Prepare the skin
Splash your face with lukewarm water to gently wet the face and orbital area. Filtered water is preferred when possible.
3. Cleanse the eye area
Dispense a small amount of cleanser into clean hands or onto a lint-free applicator brush with water.
Gently cleanse around the orbital bone and eyelid area. Avoid getting cleanser directly into the eyes.
4. Cleanse the lashes
With eyes closed, softly massage cleanser along the lash line and through the lashes using light downward motions. This removes makeup residue, oil, sweat, and natural skin-cell buildup.
5. Rinse thoroughly
Rinse with lukewarm water until all cleanser is completely removed from both skin and lashes.
6. Dry gently
Pat dry using a clean, soft, lint-free towel. Avoid rubbing, pulling, or pressing on the lashes.
7. Reset the shape
Once clean, gently brush through the mid-length of the lashes using a clean mascara wand. Avoid brushing directly at the root. Allow lashes to air dry or use a fan.
Daily cleansing supports both lash retention and overall eye health.

Understanding the Natural Lash Cycle

Natural shedding is healthy and expected.
Each lash grows independently through multiple growth phases, meaning lashes naturally shed and renew continuously. Most individuals lose up to 40% of their natural lashes every 10–14 days, with or without extensions.
Regular touch-up appointments restore balance as new lashes grow in.
Healthy shedding allows new lashes to emerge, keeping your extensions looking soft, full, and natural over time.

When to Schedule a Touch-Up

It may be time for maintenance if you notice:
-
Lashes twisting or turning downward
-
Extensions feeling heavy or unbalanced
-
Increased gaps or uneven fullness
-
Irritation or discomfort
These changes typically indicate natural lash growth progression. A refresh appointment allows us to rebalance your set while protecting lash health.

Common Factors That Affect Retention

Certain internal and environmental factors may influence lash longevity:
-
Hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, birth control adjustments)
-
Prescription medications
-
Thyroid conditions or medical sensitivities
-
Allergies, dry eyes, or watery eyes
-
Gel nail products that may trigger eye-area irritation
If you experience sensitivities, we encourage consultation with your medical provider prior to beauty treatments.

What to Avoid

To maintain the integrity of your extensions:
-
Avoid water or steam for the first 24 hours after application
-
Avoid oil-based products around the eye area
-
Do not rub, pick, or pull lashes
-
Avoid lash curlers, strip lashes, or cluster lashes
-
Avoid waterproof mascara, liquid liners, or heavy eye creams near lashes
-
Minimize prolonged steam exposure (sauna, cooking steam, high heat blow-drying)
-
Avoid cotton fibers or Q-tips near lashes
Brush lashes gently each day from the mid-length downward with eyes closed to maintain alignment.
Approved products include RevitaLash Sensitive and BioTrue® eye drops when needed.

Why Cleansing Matters

Without regular cleansing, natural oils and debris may accumulate around the follicle, limiting airflow and disrupting healthy growth.
The lash follicle requires a clean environment and oxygen to regenerate properly. Healthier natural lashes support longer-lasting, more beautiful extensions.

Scheduling & Maintenance

We recommend booking your next appointment in advance to maintain a consistent care rhythm.
Typical maintenance timing:
-
Every 2–3 weeks for most clients
-
Weekly for those who prefer consistently full lashes
-
3–4 weeks for slower growth cycles
Arriving with clean lashes allows for the most precise and efficient application.

A Note on Mascara

Professional lash extensions are designed to replace daily mascara. Traditional mascara often weighs more than extensions and contains pigments and ingredients that may compromise retention and lash health.

Our Philosophy

At Lashlette, lash extensions are approached as a collaboration between artistry and care. Healthy natural lashes are the foundation of beautiful results, and thoughtful maintenance ensures your lashes remain soft, balanced, and effortlessly refined.
