Why the Future of Beauty Isn't About Looking Different—It's About Looking More Like Yourself
By Mitzi-Jo Runyan
For years, the beauty industry celebrated transformation.
The fuller lip. The sharper contour. The darker brow. The longer lash.
Every season introduced another trend promising reinvention, and somewhere along the way, many women began chasing a version of themselves that felt increasingly unfamiliar.
Today, I believe we're witnessing something far more meaningful. Beauty is becoming quieter. It's even a trend to no longer get your nails done.
Women aren't asking how to look like someone else anymore. They're asking how to look healthier. More rested. More radiant and more like themselves.
After more than 2.5 decades in the beauty industry, I've learned that confidence rarely comes from adding or getting more. It comes from revealing what was already there waiting to reveal it's self in the most beautiful way.
The most beautiful women I've met have one thing in common: their beauty never competes for attention. It invites a second look because it feels effortless and it feels real. You notice their energy before you notice the work behind it. Because the feel more like themselves.
The greatest compliment isn't, "Who did your lashes?"
It's, "You look rested and happy."
Without anyone quite knowing why.
I believe every feature should exist in harmony. Lashes should frame the eyes, not overshadow them. Brows should create balance rather than follow a fleeting trend. Skin should look alive—not filtered. Every decision should respect the architecture nature already gave you.
Beauty was never meant to erase individuality.
It was meant to reveal it.
Perhaps that's why I believe consultation is the most luxurious service we can offer. Before recommending a single treatment, I want to understand the woman sitting in front of me.
How does she live? What makes her feel confident? How much time does she actually want to spend getting ready? What version of herself feels most authentic?
There is no universal definition of beauty because there is no universal woman.
The future belongs to personalization. This philosophy influences every experience we create at Lashlette. Every lash design, every brow shape, and every skincare recommendation begins with one question:
Will this help her look like the most beautiful version of herself?
Our responsibility as beauty professionals extends beyond creating beautiful results today. We have an obligation to protect the health of the skin, the integrity of the natural lashes, and the confidence of the women who trust us. True expertise isn't measured by how dramatic a result can be—it's measured by knowing when restraint creates something even more beautiful. Because the industry's greatest luxury is no longer excess, it's discernment.
It's choosing quality over quantity. Precision over speed. Longevity over instant gratification.
I often think about the women who lay in our beds daily. They are entrepreneurs, mothers, daughters, artists, physicians, executives, students, and caretakers. They arrive carrying responsibilities, expectations, and the constant pressure to keep up with a world that moves faster than the 405 freeway.
The next chapter of aesthetic beauty won't be defined by bigger lashes, bolder brows, or more dramatic transformations, it will be defined by intention, health and authenticity.
Because the women shaping the future of beauty aren't trying to become someone else.
They're becoming more fully themselves. And I can't imagine anything more beautiful than that.
